We will work with the Board to determine the desired traits, skills, and dispositions needed in their next leader. From that, a posting for the position will be created.

Recruitment

This is the most critical component of the search. The consultant will personally reach out to as many as 200 individuals to make them aware of the opportunity in your district and to ascertain their interest.

Application Process

Candidates will be asked to submit a compelling cover letter, resume, list of references, and copies of their pertinent NY certification. Throughout this process, screening will occur and references are being checked, as well as background checks.

Screening and Selection

The board will be provided a digital binder containing the materials of the candidates and we will assist the board in selecting approximately eleven candidates to receive a first round screening interview with the board. From the eleven, the board will narrow the pool down to approximately three finalists.

Final Candidates

The final candidates will spend a full day in the district. The day will include a tour of the district, lunch with the current or interim superintendent, two or three stakeholder interviews, and finally dinner and a final interview with the board. The stakeholder committees will be make up of students, faculty, administrators, parents, support staff, and community members. They will rate the candidates against the profile crafted by the board. The board will the make the selection of their next superintendent. (Should there be a need or desire for additional steps in the process, they will be designed with the board.)

Position Overview

The Board of Education of the Catskill Central School District invites applications for the position of Superintendent of Schools. The successful candidate will serve as the chief executive officer of the district, providing visionary leadership and working collaboratively with the Board of Education, staff, students, families, and community to ensure educational excellence for all students. The Board is seeking a candidate who will make Catskill their professional home for many years and will integrate into the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional leadership and strategic direction for the district
  • Develop, recommend, and implement policies in partnership with the Board of Education
  • Prepare and manage the district budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate staff to maintain high-quality instruction and operations
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including staff, parents, students, and community members
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

Qualifications

Required:

  • New York State School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certification
  • Master’s degree in educational administration or related field
  • Proven track record of improving student achievement
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices
  • Experience with budget development and financial management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive salary range of $180,000 – $195,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, and professional development opportunities. Residency is not required, but proximity to the district is essential due to the expectation of visibility and involvement in the school community.
